New Hire: Alex Avila, Texas A&M University - Kingsville
Dr. Alex Avila has recently been hired as the Visiting Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at Texas A&M University - Kingsville. He began this position in August 2018. His duties are to teach applied lessons in tuba and euphonium, teach low brass methods for music education majors, as well as direct the tuba/euphonium ensemble and oversee the TAMUK Chapter of the ITEA student organization. Alex received a bachelor's degree in Music Education from The University of Georgia and graduate degrees in Euphonium and Tuba performance from The University of Texas at Austin. He has won or placed in many solo competitions, most notably earning a gold medal in the Euphonium Artist Competition at the 30th anniversary of The Leonard Falcone International Tuba Euphonium Festival in 2015. In addition to his duties at TAMUK, Alex is a member of the innovative euphonium quartet, FivE and regularly tours with the group, presenting shows at conferences, universities, and public schools.
