Ronald Bishop, ITEA Lifetime Achievement Awardee
Dear Friends, We have lost one of the legends of the tuba with the passing of our dear friend, colleague, and Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Ronald Bishop. In addition to his long tenure and record of artistic achievement with the Cleveland Orchestra, he was one of the finest pedagogues anywhere in the world, a superb soloist, and a persistent champion of new music. I personally treasured his friendship and the great personal and professional advice he offered during my career. In addition to being a wonderful professional and human being, Ron Bishop was a lot of fun. It was impossible to be around him and not be anything but happy. His legacy is deep. Our deepest sympathies to his wife, Marie, and all of Ron’s family. We have lost one of our very best. A tribute to Ron will appear in an upcoming issue of the ITEA Journal. Jerry Young President, ITEA
