Bob Stewart Tuba Competition
About
The Annual Bob Stewart Tuba Competition provides exposure to the many dynamic tuba players working in improvisational music ensembles. The Competition accepts tuba-led groups that explore genres including the Blues and traditional and contemporary Jazz.
Description
The Annual Bob Stewart Tuba Competition was created by The Duke Ellington Center for the Arts and Bob Stewart to help bring to the forefront many of the talented tubists on the creative music scene today.

“I was very fortunate to have had wonderful opportunities as a young tuba player, and this competition provides me with a unique opportunity to show my appreciation for those who helped me launch my career by now sharing my knowledge and experience with some of the young musical lions of today,” Stewart says. “It is my sincere hope that this forum will help to shine a spotlight on some very deserving musicians and spread the appreciation of the tuba’s unique voice in today’s textured and rich music scene.”
The competition is a free public event that takes place during the annual 52nd Street Duke Ellington Jazz Festival in New York City in late October.

Ross Morgan (The United States Army Band (“Pershings Own”)
Dear Friends,
I am so very sad to inform you of the passing on September 1, 2013 of Ross Morgan, long time member of The United States Army Band (“Pershings Own”) in Washington, D.C. In addition to achieving the highest enlisted rank of Sergeant Major and being the enlisted leader of the Band prior to his retirement, Ross was one of the driving forces behind the annual U.S. Army Band Tuba and Euphonium Conference from its inception along with Jeff Arwood and Jack Tilbury. Ross was a fine tubist, always had a ready smile and an amazing (and quick) sense of humor. The deepest sympathy of our entire ITEA family goes out to Ross’s wife, Jane and his daughters, as well as to the entire “Pershing’s Own” family.
Jerry Young, President
The International Tuba – Euphonium Association
